This blog was an experiment to see if it was easier to post here, than on my own website like in the past [see links on the right] but it hasn't worked out that way. I guess Facebook is my blog really. I add pictures there [above] & the occasional post, so I'm going to close this eventually.

Jet Metal compilation

As you may have read on facebook, plans are well underway for my first Jet Metal compilation.
This won't be like my Bloodrunners compilations, which were exact same-size reproductions of what you saw in Bike magazine, with one episode (a minimum of twelve pictures) on one A4 page.
I draw the pictures much bigger for Jet Metal, so for the compilation, I'm using three to five pages per episode. I may even give one picture an entire page if I'm particularly proud of it.
I decided to go the self-publishing route again, as I like to remain in control (and also glean all the profit :) and sell it through the free advert I'm given in each of the six magazines that Jet Metal appears in, around the world. It is now ready:

Back in London again for a while. The shop is closed for now. Going to try to make the most of it, and do things I can't whilst in Cornwall, like try to find a publisher for my first compilation of Jet Metal episodes. This will be more of an art book than the self-published trash-mags of yore, with the episodes not squeezed onto one page as in the magazines; but with certain frames taking up whole pages on their own.

Easter weekend Sale of Jet Metal products

You know Easter? It's apparently a religious festival, but is more famous in England as the time when everybody goes shopping for sofas.
So, inspired by DFS, we too are going to have a sale & knock out everything at pornographically naked prices (very near the bottom). So, whenever you see a DFS advert on the telly, think of the Jet Metal sale.

These sounds are very specific to the language and it would be too hard to draw a different sound for each magazine; So I left them out, or used exclamation marks etc. But I've had a lot of mail about this and have decided to go with one language that everybody understands. But then they explained more and I finally relented. So www.bloodrunners.co.uk will not be mine soon. If you have it bookmarked, delete it and add www.bloodrunners.com instead.

This is their drive to becoming a national body which has got to be a good thing.

Hotel review

Last night I went to join my wife on her last night at an "eco" spa-hotel, near Newquay. She was reviewing it for a magazine and found it "delightfully unpretentious". I liked the view of the ocean from our room and the underfloor heating, but I didn't like the way the sculpture in the passage looked at me when I cavorted naked from the pool-room. It has an attitude problem.

Jet Metal book

I'm planning another compilation for next Christmas. It'll probably have the Bloodrunners strips all cleaned up [aesthetically - not morally] and the first twenty episodes of Jet Metal plus other stuff.
I've drawn Jet big, so a lot of the pictures will be full size pages, instead of the whole thing [episode] fitting on one page, which is very restricting. I'm quite excited about this and am already planning the layout and look of the thing [book]. I want it to be much more professional that the TrashMags of yore.
I'm torn between self-publishing and thus getting all the profits, or finding a publisher with a good distribution network, so that it gets into bookshops etc around the world [surely it has some attraction to non-bikers?]
Are you, or anyone you know, a publisher?

It was a guy sitting next to what looked like a Yam Tenere, with open face helmet and goggles. It was with a story about the desert and riding across it. Well done! I assume the classic "By His Bootstraps" (Heinlein) was one of your inspirations. I'm pleased that you took the time-travel principle and made such good use of it. The most impressive part is how well you filled out the story with very few words - you developed character(s) and background without particularly noticeable sections of exposition. Excellent short-story writing style! You also brought in the ideal twist of perception at the end. As someone who has read countless science-fiction short stories, I tell you that "Doppelgangers" has all the ingredients of greatness. And more... In addition to being a genuinely good SF story, it's a well-illustrated "graphic novel" (couldn't think of a more accurate term, sorry). Using slightly different styles/colours of the same scene is a great idea, and the drawing quality is superb. (I'm really curious to see whether FOUR's perspective will be even fuzzier or something else entirely.) By the way, I like the change of tense you use in the first paragraph and subsequent getting-out-of-the-chair sequences. Also, I found it interesting that you specified "black blood" when ONE saw FOUR bleeding in the back of the car - I've seen black blood used many times on film, but never seen it described in print before. Oh, and the use of colours in the illustrations plus quoted text plus headings to help the reader keep track of the phases is most clever. Well, I could go on but don't want to waste your time. Hi Andy, good to see you're still about. Watching a film last night where some kids snorted Helium for the sound affects and someone asked if I'd ever tried Nitrous for the giggles. Sudden memories of a big shed somewhere in Kent and a few of us trying to get that actor type to laugh manically by all snorting nitrous. Didn't work for a while then we all fell about. Set off to film a few final scenes and kept nearly falling off the bike as bubbles of giggles erupted through my head.... Remember?? Then of course I had to get the video out and make the wife yawn yet again with my 1.2 secs of 'fame'
So did you ever get that Moto Martin CBX you lusted after? Any plans to do another film? (If so I'm buying another bike special like) Spent 18 months living around Amsterdam/Haarlem myself a while back - would recommend it to all. Keep scribbling - great to see it all again. Blaktak has got real promise, like the mood, like the characters and want to see more. The format is like a storyboard isn't it? Very movie...and I am not sure I like it as much as your regular style...the seperate words and pictures disjoint the atmosphere a bit...early days though! The bus ride was superb...anticipation spot on as each click brings the next part...and the colour looked real good. I have said it before, and I'll say it again...you've got it man. Checking out your stuff always fills me with optimism...so thankyou. I don't know if you remember my sleepy ramblings about atoms a awhile ago..? Well another way that I see the world is by the light that people give off...some people don't give off any (and thats fine), you can't see the light that you emanate yourself (you have to be told), most common is white, yours is not white (which doesn't mean your dark by the way)...I have only seen it in a few and then only in person...so to get it from words and pictures is rare. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children --things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff.
"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Hiya! Awesome Artwork! I've fond memories of vainly attempting to copy the style whilst sat in Art lessons during the late 80's with a Bike mag hidden under the desk.. I'm sure I was supposed to be drawing crappy cans of peas or suchlike, but no chance. Art lessons were a time for bikes and kneedowns, scraping of pencil against paper in the hope the end result would be as good as your artwork. Guess I should've stuck to Cans of peas....LOL

I have been searching everywhere for a suitable Picture to have done on my leg as a 'bike' tattoo.. The whole Harley thing just doesnt grab me...I was sat the other night and POP! it occurred to me that the most. . . what's the word?. . memorable Bike Artwork has been yours. it's always encompassed what I've dreamed of biking to be: fast, furious, power and . . well, I'm sure your own inspiration must have some of the same ideals as mine . . -Ii dunno.

I wasn't going to bother but your heart rending plea for feedback twisted my arm. I remember Bloodrunners from the days of 'bike'. Bought the T-shirts, postcards, trash mags and kept everything of yours that I have got my hands on. I even spent hours reproducing some of it on my folders when I was at school so I know how long it must have taken you to knock out a whole page. What can I say? Those that have said you were years ahead of your time are right, although I can see where the ideas came from i do think that the way you represented them has influenced untold numbers. I have spent years obsessed with Hub centre steering and wide tyres (2 wheel drive is another 'personal' addition although you've done that as well at times) and always the styling comes back to that found in Bloodrunners. If I have a criticisim it would be the story line that at times goes a bit doo-laly but no ones perfect and the art work....well it always makes up for it. I was sorry to read about your eye problems, funnily enough when I started reading 'Bloodrunners' I didn't even smoke and found the drug/violence references a bit much, since then I have experimented more than a little and totally understood where you were coming from. I have also woken up to things as you have. I'm glad you found your way out and I glad it hasn't destroyed your obvious talents and that there will be more art coming. Been thinking a lot lately...and come to the conclusion that frequency is actually the answer to everything. You know the rate that our tiny little atoms vibrate? I couldn't sleep, too much going on, so at 2.30am-ish logged onto www.livejournal.com (perfect for insomniacs everywhere) and searched under the interest of motorbike. Brought up shed loads of journals of people who are into bikes in one way or another. Checked out their profiles...the other stuff their into, and its like mine. Put in a band, nine inch nails, the same thing, same interests. Read some of the journals, and the vast majority are feeling the same shit as me. Take some of those personality web test things like "what kind of vampire are you?" and we come out the same. Its frequency. Soldiers break their march over bridges so that the uniform beat doesn't break the bridge...frequency. Why do human tribes (like bikers) like similar music.......frequency. We are being controlled by our atoms man! Your art has a frequency....always has....that frequency matches mine, and obviously matches many others. I wonder what our collective frequencies could break if we could make them beat at the same time? Could it explain why some like twins, others like fours and someone else prefers a single? Do we pick a partner by picking up vibrations? Do drugs and alcohol alter our vibrations and therefore alter our world? I am not sure.....bollocks or logical!? Jason B

I remember the Bloodrunners strips in Bike all those years ago and writing to Brecon Quaddy to complain when they vanished - glad to see you have survived the nineties!
I help run Lamborghini Club UK now, and I have an old (1972) Jarama S, one of only 2 or 3 left in the UK - I remember the Bloodrunners strip with the Countach on Chelsea bridge... can't remember the storyline (will check it out soon tho'!) and how well drawn everything was / still is!
ahhh! riding to Chelsea Bridge and then to Heston Services on a Friday evening and back home for 6.00 am on Saturday morning!... Summer fun in 88 and 89 with mad boys pulling huge wheelies on plastic maggots at Heston and daft lads on 125's pushing stoppies at the bridge... and always really bad cups of tea and coffee.... joy days when I was a lot younger!

BIKE changed, and safe ol' Ogri came back, I dropped my subscription, my life changed, and the garage emptied. Used to ride a Z1300 at the time chopped of at the back to make it short no silencers semi-gloss paint & RAT legal stickers (one of those shirts would be good too) Got very into Bloodrunners spent a lot of time haunting late night McDonalds eating big svens and hunting out prey(usually boy racers in Xr3's but I had a couple of run in's with 911's and a 512 BB Ferrari) Good time's. Still reckon Bloodrunners is one of the great phenomenons of the late 20th century. You got it so right and like all visionaries you caused outrage amongst the old school (Ogri still sucks and should never been put back in) I stopped buying Bike after your strip was removed. I suspect that you may have done it that way to be more like a book but it'd flow a bit better on the web if it were on fewer pages (in my miserable opinion). WHAT DO THE REST OF YOU THINK?
The different coloured text for the different characters is a clever idea.
One last question before I bugger off, is there any chance that in the near future, you'll be putting more of your art on the site to be down loaded as wallpaper?

The Powerpoint Ink strip is great. Do you know that you can add sounds in powerpoint as well as text? It would be a good idea to Zip the finished strips to make them easy to download for those of us that have got the software to run that file format offline. In fact, I love all your drawings of girls and guns (and bikes), exactly the kind of stuff that I would be drawing if I could get my hand to do what's inside my head, although if I was drawing it I suspect that the sex would be rather more graphic. What am I saying? "suspect" my arse !
One final thing, in the original Bike strips I remember you plugging an Australian film (don't ya just love Aussie films? Mad Max, Shame, some other ones) about a big pig, which I think I saw on TV along time ago, but haven't heard of since. What was that called then? (was it any good?)
